Built in the late nineteenth century Bahia Palace is around the neighborhood Mellah (Jewish Quarter), you can admire soil zelliges painted cedar ceilings, doors worked with taste. Located next to the Museum of Marrakech, the Ben Youssef medersa was a Koranic school built during the XVIth century in 1570 and restored in 1950. A jewel of Arab-Andalusian, the medersa was for over than four centuries a home Hospitality for students who wanted to learn various sciences, including theology. Opened from 9am to 6pm.
This palace Mnebbi, house built in the late nineteenth century, was restored and renovated into a museum by Omar Benjelloun, who was a great collector of Morocco. The Marrakech Museum is funded and managed by the Foundation Omar Benjelloun.
This museum has organized since 1995 only temporary exhibitions of contemporary art or cultural heritage of Morocco. You'll find all kinds of objects such as hammered brass, arms and Berber jewelry and clothing. The objects are still used and worn in the mountains. The first floor lounge is a Moorish decor and furniture of cedar. The museum organizes concerts, theater performances and choreography. Opened from 9h till 18h30.
The Qoubba Almoravid based in Marrakech in 1064, is the last vestige of the Almoravids. The Qoubba ("dome" in Arabic) was the center of ablution for believers going to the mosque.
The Koutoubia Mosque, or Mosque of booksellers, was started under the Berber dynasty of the Almoravids in 1120, but was substantially revised from 1162 under the Almohad amir Abu Yusuf Yaqub al-Mansur, and became one of the most characteristic buildings this style. Its name comes from the fact that it was in the bazaar merchants manuscripts.
The Koutoubia was the model for the Giralda in Seville is the former minaret of the Almohad Mosque in Andalusia.
More than a million visitors came to attend the shows hosted by the snake charmers, monkey trainers, storytellers, musicians and other popular artists (games, henna tatoo, etc. ... ) early evening until the call to prayer at dawn.
The intensity of these activities spectacular and original advocated the inclusion of this site by UNESCO in 2001 as a world oral heritage, the first of its kind in the world. Saadians Tombs from the time of the great sultan Ahmad al-Mansur (1578-1603). These tombs were only recently discovered around 1917, then restored by the department of Fine Arts. They are constantly since impress visitors with the beauty of their decoration.
The mausoleum houses the body of a sixty Saadians, including Al-Mansour, his successors and his family.
The souks are the place to visit, you will appreciate the kindness of the moroccan people. You will discover all the spices you may need to make your food better when you come back from Marrakech.
